The Bayley-Hazen Military Road
During the American Revolution, Moses Hazen led an effort in 1779 to construct a military road from Newbury, Vermont to Quebec to help with a potential invasion of Canada during the American Revolutionary War. Hazen never completed construction on the road: he was recalled by General George Washington, who noted that the road was a ruse to distract the British and their resources.
Vermont Historical Society Executive Director Steve Perkins and ABC 22 & Fox 44 Anchor Mike Hoey headed out to the site of the road to learn more about it and the role it played in the American Revolution.
