Addison Preston of Danville

During the American Civil War, a teacher named Addison Preston from Danville joined the US Army's 1st Cavalry, and perished during the Battle of Cold Harbor in 1864. His effects returned to his family, who in turn donated them to the Fairbanks Museum in Saint Johnsbury. Historians discovered that Preston's uniform was up for sale in Pennsylvania, and the Danville Historical Society launched an effort to bring it home. They succeeded, and the uniform is now on display at the Danville Historical Society's headquarters.

VHS Executive Director Steve Perkins and ABC 22 & Fox 44 anchor Mike Hoey visited the historical society to learn more about Preston and his life.
