Millstone Hill Part 2
Early granite extraction in Barre involved deep quarries and hand-drilling of blocks as can be seen from Millstone Hill. Quarrying with today’s safety and quality standards involves the use of drive-in, terraced quarries and diamond wire cutting. People can learn more about the granite industry at the Vermont Granite Museum, open seasonally in Barre.
