Millstone Hill Part 1
Barre, VT was known as the granite capital of the world from the early 1900s through the 1950s because of its quarrying of high-quality stone for memorials and buildings. Millstone Hill in the Barre Town Forest features large piles of granite waste material and lower quality pieces brought up at that time by railcar and dumped. Today, however, the waste product is turned into aggregate often used for road and railroad base materials.
