Local History
Vermont’s history community is made up of over 190 historical societies, museums, and cultural organizations. VHS is committed to recognizing and supporting local history efforts; understanding that local societies are an integral part of sharing and preserving Vermont’s story. Since 1953, we have done that via programs and services under our informal League of Local Historical Societies and Museums (LLHSM).
Although programs and services are currently available to any Vermont collecting organization, institutional membership in the Vermont Historical Society is strongly encouraged. Membership helps support the many forms of assistance offered by VHS to the local historical societies, museums, and cultural organizations throughout the state.
