The Adams Grist Mill
Trying to escape debt in the 1830s, the Atkinson family constructed a grist mill in Bellows Falls to process wheat into flour. The Adams Grist Mill has become a notable landmark along the Connecticut River, and was in operation until 1961, when the last operator passed away. The building was acquired by the Bellows Falls Historical Society, which found that it was a good example of a preserved industrial site. Vermont Historical Society Executive Director Steve Perkins and ABC 22 & Fox 44 Anchor Mike Hoey headed down to check it out.
