Beer Can

Promotional beer can with a round logo on one side and an illustration of a man (Bernie Sanders) on the other. The logo is blue on the top and red on the bottom with the words, "Bernie / Weisse", and the date 2016. There is a black bird in the center and the inscription, "A slight sour and forward-thinking Berliner Weisse", at the bottom. The words "ZERO GRAVITY" are in a blue band at the top. The reverse is printed with an illustration of a man leaning against a barrel and holding up a beer glass. He has spiky, white hair, and is wearing a plaid shirt and suspenders. Desk blotter with figure of 3 monkeys glued to top layer. 3 monkeys represent "Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil" The first wears a coat of red, the second a coat of green, and the third a coat of blue. Coats are visible only from back. Blotter pad on which they rest is made up of 4 7-sided layers, the bottom being a green blotter which is mostly torn away; the next two layers are blue and red felt, and the top layer is leather, which has a scroll design around border and printed in ink in center: "Don't Monkey/ With Anything/ on This Desk" The layers are pinked around the edges and are stapled together, with the staple being out of sight under the monkeys.

Black felted wool cap with a leather brim (detached). The crown is unstiffened. The base of the crown is decorated with a silver ribbon, and a red velvet cross is appliqued to the center front. The interior is lined with leather, and there is a label that reads, "J.R. Pettis & Co., Troy, N.Y."

Cap

This red silk cap is adorned with a Buddha applique on the front. On each side of the cap, there is an embroidered flower. Additionally, the cap features stuffed animal ears that protrude from the crown. The interior of the cap is lined with a blue and green floral fabric. Lastly, there is a single-thread loop situated at the crown.

Carton

Light brown boxboard 4-pack carton for Switchel, a Vermont-made energy drink. The paper label is glued-on, has a white backround, some white lettering, with orange and brown highlights and lettering. The carton is to hold 4-12 fluid ounce bottles of the all-natural drink, made mainly with apple cider vinegar, ginger, and pure maple syrup. A boxboard handle is built-in to the carton. The carton shows that the drink is made by the Vermont Switchel Company in Cabot, VT.

Filmstrip Projector

The Black Picturol Projector Model G, manufactured by the Society for Visual Education Inc. in Chicago, USA, is a filmstrip projector. It features a cylindrical light bulb housed in a box at the back of the projector. The front of the projector is equipped with a cylindrical lens, while the mechanism in between is responsible for feeding the filmstrip past the light. A black knob on the side allows for the movement of the filmstrip. To power the light, there is a lengthy cord that provides electricity.

Accompanying the projector is a black case with a hinged top and a leather handle. Inside the case, there are felt pads to provide protection. There is also a padded compartment, although it is too narrow to accommodate a spare light bulb. Additionally, there is a metal tin designed to hold a coil of filmstrip. The tin has a gold color and is labeled with the word "Vermont" on the top. Lastly, a spare light bulb is included for the projector. This bulb features a brass-colored connection base, a large wire filament, and a black cap on the top. It is worth noting that there is an identical bulb already inside the projector.

The growler has an oval sticker label on one side showing an image of a human figure playing a clarinet with the inscription, "Rock Art Brewery MORRISVILLE VERMONT". The opposite side of the growler has a rectangular sticker label telling the story behind the name along with the brewery's statement and contact information. An oval sticker on the neck reads, "Ridge Runner Ale 7.5% alcohol/volume".

No information was found about this organization or about which Vermont school was associated with this pin. It came from the estate of A. Fern Souther (1907-2004), who was born in Orleans, VT, grew up in Lowell, VT, was an elementary school teacher in Burlington, VT.

Membership Ribbon

A blue ribbon with silver fringe and topped with a silver metal bar with pin on the back. The bar has the words “Faith, Hope and Charity” on it plus a crossed anchor and cross. On the ribbon, printed in black on the initials “I.O.G.T.” then a globe with the words “our field” across the middle. At the bottom of the ribbon, it says, “Camel’s Hump Lodge, No. 119, Huntington, Vt.”

The I.O.G.T. stands for International Organization of Good Templars and was a temperance fraternal group founded in 1851 in Utica, N.Y. It was one of the few organizations that welcomed women, not only as members, but to leadership positions. And some lodges admitted black members until after the Civil War when dual lodges were allowed. The organization also had the name American Independent Order of Good Templars. Olive Romerio Franzi (1920-2018) was a lifetime resident of Montpelier and a 1938 graduate of Montpelier High School. She was the daughter of Carlo and Elisa (Fornarelli) Romerio. She began working at Jackson's Pharmacy while still in high school and after graduation she worked for the Montpelier public schools before joining Green Mountain Power in 1941, staying 45 years and retiring as administrative assistant to the president in 1986. She married Gino C. Franzi of Barre in 1949. He died in 1961. They had no children. She was active in many organizations, including as a volunteer with the Vermont Historical Society and in 2008 Gov. Jim Douglas gave her the Governor's Outstanding Community Service Award.

"A ?allit, also spelled ?alit, tallis, or tallith, plural ?allithim, ?alithim, tallithim, or tallisim, prayer shawl worn by male Jews during the daily morning service (sha?arit); it is also worn by the leader of the service during the afternoon service (min?a). On Yom Kippur, males wear it for all five services and on Tisha be-Av only during the afternoon service.

Rectangular in shape, the wool (or sometimes silk) shawl has black or blue stripes with fringes (tzitzit) affixed to the four corners as the Bible prescribes (Numbers 15:38). Two fringes fall in front, two behind. Often an embroidered collar is added, inscribed with the blessing to be recited when the ?allit is put on. A pious Jew is often buried in his ?allit after one of the fringes has been removed."
